"PARASHURAM KUND" The less explroed,awe-inspiring sight !!!

 “PARASHURAM KUND”

This is a place to seek, through terrain of winsome landscapes, filled me with an exquisite joy the bluish green buoyant motion of the river SIANG and serenity surrounded. A feast for the eyes, the place has a mythological importance too… Basically for pilgrims, persons who lost both their parents come here to bathe in holy water of Brahmaputra River Kund, which is also known as LUHIT river in Assam, SIANG in Arunachal and YARLUNG TSANGPO in Tibet. Flows through China,India and Bangladesh, if one ride farther to higher altitudes of Arunachal will reach China border. Not only as pilgrimage but, the place is well known for it's hypnotic beauty amongst locals, who often come to enjoy picnic @ the bank of the river. "Maghi Mela" also an event to look for on the month of January, held during Makar Sankranti, the last day of Pooh Maah (as per assamese calender) every year here.

So, now coming to the legend this place had been named after is, the legend of Lord Parashuram, and his infamous rage. He is the Incarnation of Lord Vishnu, as per legends he beheaded his mother at the behest of his father by his weapon AXE. The weapon caught stick to his hands, after he had killed his mother. In atonement he traveled around the world worshiped many goddesses but, the axe wouldn’t fall from his hands. Disappointed he went to his father who then suggested him to go to river Brahamaputra and take a dip in Brahma Kund during ashoka asthami (river water is pure only during ashoka asthami) and ask forgiveness for his sins. He did as per his father instructed and thus, finally the axe dropped off his hands.
One has to climb nearly 100 steps up hill & then down to reach the Kund, it really can spin your head for a second if you look straight into the water below while stepping downwards. Be careful, "The most beautiful things often are the most dangerous".. (just kidding).

WHEN TO VISIT : Winter and spring are the best season to visit (October - April), skip rainy season (monsoon).
HOW TO REACH:  No other ways but road. A ride / drive of 160 k :m fromTinsukia,Assam( 4 – 5 hours of journey, depends on speed and halts). So, how to reach Tinsukia should be of concern if from outside Assam. Tinsukia is reachable by all three routes – Railway/Airway & Road. One have to reach Guwahati first, FYI Guwahati is the gateway (by rail/road) for all 7 northeastern sister states except Sikkim, which make us 8 sisters now. Once reached Tinsukia, book a car here. Online car booking facilities not avaiable (Ola, Uber).
From Tinsukia through RUPAI one can reach Parashuram in Arunachal. Must carry an inner line permit (ILP) to enter as these are restricted areas or can take out on the spot at Dirak gate, entrance of Arunachal, Carry all ID Cards along. By Air, Dibrugarh, Mohanbari is the nearest airport if you need to save time. From Mohanbari to Tinsukia, distance is about 47 k:m by road.

WHERE TO STAY: Tinsukia is the best place to stay over if one plans to travel around Arunachal Pradesh. No doubt, accommodations to be found at some places in Arunachal as well, but best would be to come back to Tinsukia, Assam for stay. Eateries/fast food centers are located every corner in this town, accommodation from budget to 2-3 star with in-house restaurants are easily available. So, whenever you plan to visit Assam(specially upper assam), keep extra days for Arunachal, will provide more information about places to explore in Assam and other northeastern states in upcoming posts.
Arunachal Pradesh is well connected to all major cities of Assam, if you choose somewhere else to stay. Tinsukia is the nearest major city in Assam near Arunachal Pradesh.

THINGS TO BE NOTED:

Ø  Keep handy snacks and water; shops/eateries not available everywhere while traveling in Arunachal.
Ø  In own car/bike, don’t forget to carry along puncture kit, clutch cable, first aid box
Ø  Always keep medicines to avoid feeling of nausea, sweet & tangy candies and a power bank.
Ø Online car service not operational yet, e.g. Ola, Uber, contact local travel agencies or drop me
     a message in comment section.
Ø  ILP (inner line permit) is must to enter restricted areas in Arunachal Pradesh. If coming by flight from
GAU-DIB; an office to draw permit is situated at Mohanbari in Assam, falls off the airport.

*Hope to reach wanderers and nature lovers, to grab your attention to explore the anesthetic beauties of northeast India.
