“MAJULI” World’s largest River Island!!!

“If you are not bewildered or astonished by your existence, you’ve taken everything for granted. But when you are bewildered and totally astonished you’ll also be grateful and when you’re grateful you’ll be able to do great and wondrous things. Not only for yourself, but for all of life.”

Majuli has Heart! Majuli has Human! Majuli is Alive!

Tough to describe the simple lifestyle and serene scenic beauty of the island Majuli in few words. Apart from being the largest river island in the world, a rich storehouse of Assamese culture & heritage. Majuli is abode for SATRIA culture (pronounced HXOTRIYA in Assamese), monasteries and NAAMGHAR (shrine); this is where people of Assam introduced to Vaishnavism, a monotheist form of Hinduism. People from faraway lands live amongst local residents or Satras in Majuli to learn Vashnavism, Assamese civilization & culture, to study life and livelihood of monks and people in the island. A day isn’t enough to adapt into simplicity of Mjuli. The sound of Doba (an oval shaped big drum) and hymns at Satras in the evening, the sight of Mishing boys singing and riding on buffalos amidst golden rice fields, hospitality and humbleness of the  people-  one might not experience anywhere else but in Majuli.
